BLACKPINK’s ‘Pink Venom’ ineligible for rankings on Korean chart show, Music Bank; here’s why

South Korean network KBS has confirmed that female pop group BLACKPINK’s recent release ‘Pink Venom’ has been deemed ineligible for the “Music Bank” chart.

According to Korean media portal Soompi, ‘Pink Venom’ has notably been absent from the weekly chart rankings on KBS 2TV’s Music Bank (which the music show refers to as “K-Chart”) ever since its release last month, even as two of BLACKPINK’s older songs —”Lovesick Girls” and “As If It’s Your Last“—made the latest chart at No. 38 and No. 40 respectively.

The report cites the reason being the mention of a luxury brand name (Celine) in the song’s lyrics, which was determined to be a violation of Article 46 of the Broadcast Act. Since the group’s label YG Entertainment chose not to amend the lyrics, ‘Pink Venom’ was not included in the “Music Bank” K-Chart rankings.

Notably, the song topped other weekly music award programs such as MBC’s Show Champion, Mnet’s M Countdown and SBS’s Inkigayo. Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is currently gearing up for the release of their second full-length album BORN PINK, featuring the title track ‘Shut Down’ on September 16.
