While it was surprisingly revealed that Hugh Jackman’s fan-favorite character Wolverine – who had died in the 2017’s Logan – would be returning for Ryan Reynold’s third outing in Deadpool franchise, many were still concerned about Logan’s conclusion and how the deceased X-Man will be revived for the new film.
According to Collider, Jackman briefly addressed the concern and revealed more on the device that has been employed to allow him to return to the character. “It’s all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines. Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science,” Jackman shared in a recent interview.
“So, I don’t have to screw with the Logan timeline, which was important to me,” he added. “And I think probably to the fans too.” Moreover, his co-star Reynolds also touched on the topic back in September suggesting the character’s timelines are incorporated in the new film. “Logan takes place in 2029. Totally separate thing,” he tweeted. “Logan died in Logan. Not touching that.”
Additionally, Logan’s director James Mangold also previously wrote on the matter and shared that he has zero concerns about the impact of his film being affected. “Oh my gosh! Everybody chill,” he wrote on Twitter. “Just kidding! I’m all good! Logan will always be there. Multiverse or prequel, time warp or wormhole, canon or non-canon or even without a rationale, I cannot wait to see what madness my dear friends Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman cook up!”
Well, it’ll be interesting to see how the two beloved characters end up being a crucial component within the MCU’s multiversal saga. Deadpool 3 begins production in May 2023 and opens in theaters on November 8, 2024.
