From real bike rides to ‘co-actor quartet’, shooting Paper Girls was great for Fina Strazza

Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming sci-fi adventure series Paper Girls has grabbed global attention with its amazing trailer release. The plot revolves around four 12-year-old girls, trapped in a complicated conflict, who travel time on a mission to save the world. Recently, breakout leads Sofia Rosinsky, Camryn Jones, Riley Lai Nelet, and Fina Strazza were interviewed on their experiences in playing the girl gang. Fina Stanzza, who plays the role of KJ Brandman on the series, shared the reel-versus-theatre challenges that she had faced onset.

The talented actress answered, “I started out on a film and had done some theatre before. I started working professionally but I just always wanted to perform, no matter what the medium was,” said Strazza. “On stage, you learn to perform in front of a live audience. That is something that translates to anyone and teaches you how to react to people. You feed off whoever’s in that room and their energy.”

When asked about her experience with co-actors, she said, “Sofia Rosinsky, Camryn Jones, and Riley Lai Nelet definitely gave me a lot to work on. They are all incredibly talented and I think they have prepared me for anything I’m going to do in the future. Matilda, the character I played on Broadway as a child artist, was really special. On set, I shared that role with Sofia, Camryn, and Riley. I feel very comfortable with our quartet and am at home with us getting back to that kind of beginning.”

Adding on to the adventures she encountered on the sets, Fina said, “Our bike scenes were unique. Normally, actors will be placed on a trailer, but it was important to our director that we were doing the real thing. So, we were actually riding our bikes, which made things harder but also a lot more real. One of the first things we did was ride with our stunt coordinator.”

Paper Girls is adapted from written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Cliff Chiang. The series is written by Fola Goke-Pariola and directed by Georgi Banks-Davies, Mairzee Almas, Destiny Ekaragha, and Karen Gaviola.
