Oscars 2023: Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and more shortlisted for Best Original Song

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced its shortlists for Best Original Song category and the list includes some of the biggest names in music industry.

According to an NME report, the longlist of 82 songs written for films has now been reduced to just 15. The list includes chart topper Taylor Swift who could get a nod for her song from Where the Crawdads Sing, ‘Carolina.’

While Rihanna could also score her first nomination with her comeback single ‘Lift Me Up’ from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Lady Gaga is also in the line who might get a nod for ‘Hold My Hand’ from blockbuster film Top Gun: Maverick.

Selena Gomez’s song ‘My Mind & Me’ from her recent documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, has also made it to the shortlist alongside ‘The Weeknd’ who’s running for his musical contribution in James Cameron’s visual spectacle sequel Avatar: The Way of Water.

Jazmine Sullivan’s contribution to the movie Till, ‘Stand Up,’ and LCD Soundsystem’s ‘New Body Rhumba’ from White Noise are also among the shortlist for Best Original Song. ‘Naatu Naatu’ song from S. S. Rajamouli’s action drama RRR is also included in the shortlist.

‘Til You’re Home’ from A Man Called Otto

‘Naatu Naatu’ from RRR

‘My Mind & Me’ from Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me

‘Good Afternoon’ from Spirited

‘Applause’ from Tell It like a Woman

‘Stand Up’ from Till

‘Hold My Hand’ from Top Gun: Maverick

‘Dust & Ash’ from The Voice of Dust and Ash

‘Carolina’ from Where the Crawdads Sing

‘New Body Rhumba’ from White Noise

Out of all the songs in the shortlist, only five tracks will be named as nominees, which all are unveiled on January 24. The 95th Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theater on March 12
