Robert Downey Jr. looked completely unrecognizable as he was photographed on The Sympathizer’s Los Angeles set. The actor was seen sporting a shaved head, wearing a black zip-up hoodie, blue sweats and a white T-shirt.
As shared by Page Six, the photographs were taken on Friday while the cast and crew took a break from filming to eat lunch on the set. This is reportedly one of the looks Downey Jr. transforms into for the thriller drama. The actor was also seen walking around the set shirtless, with a medium-length brunette hairstyle and hair on chest.
RDJ is set to co-star in the HBO drama series adaptation of Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel ‘The Sympathizer’. The actor is reportedly playing several supporting roles in the HBO drama. Director Park Chan Wook will helm the series and will also be the co-showrunner alongside Don McKellar.
According to Deadline, “The novel is an espionage thriller and cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his resulting exile in the United States. A worldwide search is underway for the lead role and the rest of the predominantly Vietnamese ensemble.”
Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey, and Amanda Burrell will executive produce for Team Downey along with Park Chan Wook, Don McKellar, Niv Fichman through Rhombus Media as will Kim Ly. The series is co-produced by HBO, A24 and Rhombus Media in association with Cinetic Media and Moho Film.
