Sara Ali Khan: I don’t think Sara and Kartik Aaryan have ever hung out together

While for most Mumbaikars togged up in their polo Tees and boots it’s still winter, spring is already in the air for Sara Ali Khan, which explains the white tube top and teeny-weeny shorts. She greets you with her signature namaste and on being told that she’s being interviewed, the two-film old actress quips that she had better be careful with her words because mom Amrita Singh reads “your paper cover to cover”. And that’s a prelude for what is to come.
Her third film after ‘Kedarnath’ and ‘Simmba’, ‘Love Aaj Kal’ is gearing up for her a Valentine’s Day release but bring up the subject of her co-star and one-time date, and Sara deadpans, “I don’t think I’ve worked with Kartik Aaryan, it was Veer I met on the sets of the film. I don’t think Sara and Kartik have ever hung out together, they were Zoe and Veer.” Now, that’s some intense prep! The actress then goes on to point out that while there’s a gawkiness… a weirdness… in Raghu and Veer Kartik’s screen avatars there’s none of that in the actor, for real. So, is she up for another collaboration with her crush-turned-costar? “Yeah, I mean somebody…” she starts, then immediately breaks off to mutter, “No,

no, let’s not put it out there,” before explaining, “Everything I say is to be taken with a pinch of salt because sometimes I say things just for effect.” Okay, we are confused ourselves now.

From posts and pics on the social media, one knew that Sara had visited Kartik in Lucknow when he was there filming ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’, while he had flown down to Bangkok when she was shooting ‘Coolie No 1’ to surprise her on her birthday. He was also rooting for her from the front row, with her brother Ibrahim beside him, during her first ramp walk. But before you can go any further, you notice that the actress has shut her eyes and shut you off. She refuses to speak till you change the topic. Fine then, will she tell us her definition of love in the times of Tinder? Her eyes pop open and the smile returns as she philosophises, “The language and expression of love have changed, but as an idealistic 24-year-old girl, I want to believe that the ethos is still the same.”
Attributing the change in relationship dynamics to women becoming financially independent, she refuses to accept that they want physical intimacy more now. “I’m sure that back in the ’90s too women wanted to be touched as much as they do today. But yes, the coyness has gone now because women don’t look for support from a guy. You only want him to support you in doing what supports you. Things are inching towards equality,” she avers.
