Sidharth Malhotra wanted Mission Majnu to be Rashmika’s debut Bollywood movie

Mission Majnu is all set to release on Netflix. However, the film was initially slated to make a theatrical release last year. It saw its release date pushed back twice and eventually saw a platform shift as well.

Starring Sidharth Malhotra in the lead, Mission Majnu was supposed to mark Rashmika Mandanna’s debut in Bollywood. However, due to certain reasons the film got delayed and hence Amitabh Bachchan starrer Goodbye became her first Bollywood release.

In a conversation with E Times, Sidharth expressed that he wanted Mission Majnu to be Rashmika’s Bollywood debut as technically the actress had shot for Mission Majnu before she shot for Goodbye. To which, Rashmika responded, “I think this (Mission Majnu) was my comfort, this is my home, my first Hindi production. It was you know that first when you start, you’re so nervous at the same time, you don’t know what is going on or anything about it.”

Sidharth happened to pull Rashmika’s leg by highlighting her nervous statement. He said, “She was not at all nervous. She was telling the director, the producer, telling me, why are you shooting here, why are you shooting in South.”

Sidharth also praised Rashmika as a co-star. He complimented that she was very easy-going and did not come with a preconceived notion about a particular scene, which eventually gave them a scope to try something new and the new director Shantanu Bagchi also benefited from it.

Sidharth and Rashmika also spoke at length about essaying real-life characters in Mission Majnu. While Sidharth talked about how he gets the parts of officer’s right since he comes from an Army background, Rashmika also drew parallels between her roles in Mission Majnu and Sita Ramam and how the two characters were similar but also very different.

Starring Sidharth Malhotra, Rashmika Mandanna, Parmeet Sethi, Sharib Hashmi, Kumud Mishra, Zakir Hussain and Mir Sarwar, Mission Majnu is arriving on Netflix on January 20, 2023.
