The Flash star Ezra Miller’s future with DC to be decided after recovery; James Gunn says the film ‘resets everything’

After the controversial headlines made by Ezra Miller in the last year, new DC co-head Peter Safran says the doors are open for future collaboration for The Flash star. “Ezra is completely committed to their recovery,” Safran said, as reported by Variety. “And we are fully supportive of that journey that they’re on right now. When the time is right, when they feel like they’re ready to have the discussion, we’ll all figure out what the best path forward is. But right now, they are completely focused on their recovery.

He added, “And in our conversations with them over the last couple of months, it feels like they’re making enormous progress.” According to the outlet, the comments, made during a presentation held Monday on the Warner Bros. lot for select journalists, referenced Miller’s self-described mental health struggles.

The actor shared last year that they began “ongoing treatment” to cope with “complex mental issues” in the wake of numerous arrests and abuse allegations. The actor was arrested twice in Hawaii, once for disorderly conduct and harassment and other one for a physical altercation at a private residence.

“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” Miller said at the time. “I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”

Meanwhile, Safran and DC co-head James Gunn laid out their vision for Phase 1 of the DC reset, which will kick off with a Superman movie in 2025. Gunn also lauded Miller’s upcoming standalone film The Flash saying, “I will say here that “Flash” is probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”

As the outlet shares, the pair said Shazam! sets up the Andy Muschietti’s The Flash which “resets everything,” according to Gunn. The Flash then segues into Blue Beetle, which flows into Aquaman 2, which will then make way for new Superman being written by Gunn himself. The film will be without Henry Cavill and focus on the early days of the superhero.
