In a recent interview, when cricketer Suryakumar Yadav asked Virat Kohli regarding his journey in the last two years, Virat shared how his mind struggled during the tough times. He confronted that he had started getting frustrated and became very cranky and snappy as his bad behaviour had eventually started reflecting, especially on his actor-wife Anushka Sharma and other family members.
Virat while interacting with Suryakumar said, “In my case too, frustration started creeping in. I wanted to play in a certain way, according to the expectations of everyone and mine as well. But cricket was not allowing me to do that and hence I found myself way too far from where my game was. My attachments and desires had totally taken over. And that is when I realised that I can’t be totally away from who I am and I can’t live in denial”.
“Because, in my case, it brought me more frustration. I was getting very cranky, very snappy in my space which was not fair on anyone around me – Anushka and closed ones. I think it’s not fair on the people that support you and are with you all the time to keep seeing you in that space. So, I had to take responsibility and put things in perspective,” he added.
Virat also had a word of advice for Surya, he said, “Sometimes what happens, you (Surya) will also experience it as you play more and more now, people look at you differently. When Surya goes out to play, people will say that Surya will do it. To keep up with it is an intense process”.
“I am just happy… in the last two years I didn’t have such a start,” Kohli said. “It was the first match of the year and I got a century, so hopefully, I can build on this because it is also a World Cup year and there is a big Test series coming against Australia.
Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli got married in Italy on December 11, 2017. They were blessed with a baby girl in January 2021.
