Yami Gautam recalls being mocked for playing a ‘small’ role in Kaabil; compares approaches of Bollywood and Hollywood

Actress Yami Gautam started her career in Bollywood with a bang as her debut film, Vicky Donor, impressed the critics as well as the audience. Since then, there has been no looking back for Yami. However, at times, she has been criticised for her choices. Recalling one of them, Yami stated that some people, mostly journalists, had mocked her for doing a “small role” in the Hrithik Roshan starrer Kaabil, which was released in 2017. Not only this, but she also compared Bollywood with Hollywood while stating that in the West, the length of a role does not matter.

It all happened during her conversation with Galatta Plus. The Bala actress recalled, “I was called out and was told that I had a cameo or a small role in the film. Kaabil, I think that’s another film that I am so glad that I got to be a part of that film… The audience loved it. And now, when journalists interact with me, they’re like, ‘You were so good in that film’. But, I say, ‘No, but that’s not what you wrote back then’.”

As she continued to elaborate her take on the same, the Badlapur actress pointed to the West, and asserted that even the biggest stars in Hollywood sometimes do small roles. She was quoted saying, “I think it’s one of the few times when we should look at the West. Wahan pe bade se bade actors (There, even the biggest stars), don’t shy away from doing roles and working with directors if they want to. They don’t care. They just come and do something amazing and leave. Here, we make it such a big deal.”

Coming to the professional front, the 34-year-old actress was last seen in A Thursday and Dasvi; both were released on OTT platforms. She has a bunch of projects in her kitty scheduled to release in 2023 including Lost and Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga.
