“Yash Raj Films is a risk-taking, gutsy production house,” says Shah Rukh Khan; lauds banner for taking chance with his “greatest film” Fan

Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback project, Pathaan, continues to break box office records. Besides his pairing opposite Deepika Padukone, and pitted against John Abraham, it’s his association with Yash Raj Films, that the audience expectation was high. For the unversed, the SRK-YRF association kicked off with Darr, and over the years the duo has given numerous hits.

Speaking of the same during the latest press conference to celebrate the success of Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan asserted, “Yash ji jab YRF ke head the, he gave me too much love. We started with Darr. The main thing is that I believe in filmmaking, as a producer, as a director, as a filmmaker, and as a team, which is Yash Raj – No guts no glory. Some of the biggest guts in the film industry, honest belief, be it making films way ahead of their time, like Lamhe and Silsila. Mai hit filmo ki baat nahi kar raha hu.”

King Khan further elaborated and added, “I can tell you honestly, to me, one of the greatest films they made with me, which did not do well at all, is Fan to take a chance and Yash Raj stands for taking chances. It is very wrong when somebody belittles a creative team like Yash Raj and says – unki woh film theek nahi thi. Of course, none of them does it for any other reason but to please the audience. As a professional, I think Yash Raj Films has lots of guts to make different films. People cannot forget that the banner came up with something so wonderfully different at the peak of their career and made a film like Lamhe and took a chance.”

Before concluding his take, Khan said, “You know to take chances and not just sit on their past laurels and make even this universe (spy-universe) the kind of expenditure these films take, the kind of money and time that has to be spent. The kind of excellence, Yash Raj started its own VFX studio to be able to facilitate films like this. So I think it’s a big, chancy, risk-taking, wonderfully gutsy production house. Personally, I love them to death. They are responsible for who I am today. But, Beyond all that professionally, it is an amazing set of people. To make successful cinema, there is a very simple line, I tell this to everybody – ‘If you can’t die for Cinema, you have no right living off it and Yash Raj is like that.”

Speaking of Pathaan, it’s the third entry to the YRF banner’s spy universe. The film, released on January 25, is receiving love from across the country.
