Debutante filmmaker Aasmaan Bharadwaj, son of filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, is gearing up for his directorial debut with Kuttey, a caper thriller! Ahead of its release, the makers of the film hosted a grand music launch event titled ‘Mehfil -E-Khaas’, in Mumbai. The event was hosted by lyricist-writer Varun Grover. The stars of Kuttey Arjun Kapoor, Tabu, Radhika Madan, Shardul Bhardwaj, director Aasmaan Bhardwaj, producer Vishal Bhardwaj, lyricist Gulzar, singer Rekha Bhardwaj, producers Luv Ranjan, Ankur Garg, Bhushan Kumar and other team members were present at the event.
While on stage, Arjun Kapoor got emotional as his late mother would have enjoyed watching Vishal and Rekha perform along with Gulzar’s poetry reading session. He said, “Aaj mujhe mummy ki yaad bahut aayi (Today, I was couldn’t help but remember my mother).
He then discussed how he manifested working with Vishal Bhardwaj over a decade ago. He said that usually actors don’t get to work with an ensemble of this caliber. The film stars Tabu, Konkona Sen Sharma, Naseeruddin Shah, Kumud Mishra among others. “I had gone to meet Vishal several years ago, and this is an interesting incident. I had gone to his office when I wasn’t an actor. I had gone crazy after watching Kaminey thrice. Then, Ishqiya released and I thought I should go and meet him. I had gone to meet him since my mother knew him and Rekha Bhardwaj well. When I decided to become an actor, I got my photos clicked, took my laptop and went to see Vishal in his office. I showed him my photos and I told him ‘I know you can’t cast me in your films, yet but I am willing to work in your production too.’ I told him this 12 years ago and my dream came true now due to his son Aasmaan. I think life comes a full circle.”
The musical extravaganza saw live performances from Vishal Bhardwaj, singer Rekha Bhardwaj, and the legendary lyricist Gulzar. Rekha Bhardwaj’s performed a beautiful rendition of ‘Namak Ishq Ka’ from the movie Omkara. She also sang the titular song of Kuttey along with other songs like ‘Paani Paani Rey’, ‘Ek Wo Din’, and ‘Rone Do’. At the event, Vishal Bhardwaj dedicated ‘Dil Toh Bacha Hai Ji’ from the film Ishqiya for Arjun Kapoor. Radhika Madan & Shardul Bharadwaj requested Vishal & Rekha to sing their all-time favourite song ‘Pehli Baar’ version from the movie Kaminey.
Kuttey is produced by Luv Ranjan, Vishal Bhardwaj, Ankur Garg and Rekha Bhardwaj under the banner of Luv Films and Vishal Bhardwaj Films, and presented by Gulshan Kumar and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series. The film’s music is scored by Vishal Bhardwaj with lyrics penned by Gulzar. The film is all set to release this Friday.
