Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan wants to be like Anil Kapoor from Nayak; here’s why

It has been over 20 years since the Anil Kapoor-starrer Nayak: The Real Hero released but the film continues to inspire people not just India but also outside. The movie finds a mention during discussions where someone wants to change the system. For those not in the know, the film saw Kapoor’s character Shivaji Rao Gaekwad becoming the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for one day and the positive changes he brings in the state in such a short duration.

Now, the latest to take inspiration from the film is team Bangladesh’s noted all-arounder Shakib Al Hasan. The cricketer is apparently not happy with the functioning of his country’s T20 league BPL (Bangladesh Premier League). Hence, he expressed the desire to become the chief of the league for some time, like Kapoor’s character became the CM for a day.

Speaking to a group of reporters in Bangladesh, Shakib said, “If they made me the BPL CEO, it would take me one or two months to correct everything. You have seen the movie Nayak, right? If you want to do something, you can do it in one day.”

Directed by S Shankar, Nayak was the official Hindi remake of his own Tamil film Mudhalvan. The film also starred Amrish Puri, Paresh Rawal and Rani Mukerji. Although Nayak didn’t become successful at the box office, it has found a lot of acceptance and following after its continuous re-runs on TV post its release.
