EXCLUSIVE: Taran Adarsh opens up on the underperformance of Laal Singh Chaddha; says, “Aamir Khan has missed the buzz this time”

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, while sharing his opinion on Laal Singh Chaddha, film critic Taran Adarsh said, “I genuinely feel that the four weeks gap decided by the makers of Laal Singh Chaddha was wrong, completely wrong! Why would audience go to theatre to watch the film when they known that the film is going to come on OTT after one month and they can watch it there”.

Talking about the adequate gap needed for a film to shift from theatre to OTT platform, Taran said, “I feel eight weeks gap is important. If you can give more than eight weeks then that is even better. I would like to give examples of two films that came on OTT after sufficient gap but were still doing well in theatres; the first one is Pushpa and the second is recently released Kantara, which is still doing well”.

Comparing where Aamir Khan’s film missed the mark, Taran added, “On the contrary, Laal Singh Chaddha was out in the first week, in fact first day itself. The verdict that the film is not going work was loud and clear. Aamir Khan has missed the buzz this time. At the same time, people not only rejected the film, but also Aamir Khan’s performance in the film as they felt he was getting repetitive. So, I think that even if you put the film after eight weeks or three months on OTT, it might not work. Laal Singh Chaddha has hit Aamir Khan’s credibility because this is the second major flop after Thugs of Hindostan”.

Last year, at the special screening of Kajol starrer Salaam Venky, Aamir Khan spoke on taking break from films after Laal Singh Chaddha failure. He said that he will be spending time with family and will come back after one year. Speaking on the red carpet, he said, “I am not doing anything. For last many years, I have been working continuously so right now I want to spend some time with my family. Paani foundation ka bhi kaam chal rha hai, aur bhi thoda kaam chal rha hai, so I will come back to acting after a year. You can see me in this small role.”

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan will be producing the Hindi remake of the Spanish film Campeones. The actor was supposed to star in the film but after Laal Singh Chaddha failed to work at the box office, it seems like the direction changed for his next.
