Nawazuddin Siddiqui looks out for roles that get him out of his comfort zone

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who after doing small parts in films like Sarfarosh, New York, Munnabhai MBBS, Black Friday and Dev D, came into the spotlight for his performance in Gangs of Wasseypur. The film saw him playing a man who is out to seek revenge of his father’s death. Besides Bollywood, Nawaz also ventured into the digital space with web shows, which brought him a lot of popularity and recognition. The Bollywood actor has often said that it’s the role and script that drives him and not the medium that it’s being made for when it comes to signing a project. He recently said that earlier he didn’t have much idea about digital platforms. While he knew about films, it was Anurag Kashyap who introduced him to OTT platforms.

Though Nawaz has a number of successful films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Badlapur and Kick in his filmography, he doesn’t pay too much attention to the amount that they rake in. In a recent interview, he said that as an actor, one shouldn’t work keeping in mind these factors as he feels that they corrupt an actor’s craft. He still looks out for roles that get him out of his comfort zone and help him understand his inner emotions. Nawaz expressed the desire to do roles that challenge him. He doesn’t worry too much about the shade of the character or the genre of the film. The actor feels that it’s the character that matters and not the genre. Nawaz explained that there’s a lot of detail that one has to delve into to play various character. If an actor performs every role in a similar manner, then he/she won’t be able to stand out.
